Summer Season 2016/17

Mentone Athletics Club competes through the summer as a club in the Athletics Victoria Shield Competition in Blue Zone. The 2016/17 season starts on Saturday 8th October and you must be registered with Athletics Victoria to compete.

Mentone has Men’s teams in the Open Division 2, Under 20, Under 16 and Under 14 divisions and Women’s teams in the Open Division 2, Under 18, Under 16 and Under 14 divisions with the hope to get a number of the teams into the finals.

We are always looking for new athletes; junior or senior. If you are interested then please contact our Summer Captains. They will be present at the club on training nights and at the club tent at matches. The Men’s Captain is Antony Symons and the Women’s Captain is our Club President Heather Whitaker.

There are 12 rounds of Shield Competition with the top two teams from each age group in each zone competing against each other at the Shield Final. Last year we had 3 teams in the Shield Final and took home two Premierships, Under 20 men and Division 2 Women.

There are two programs, 1 and 2, that alternate each week. The Shield Final this year will be Program 2. The Shield Competition begins this year with Program 2. The program details can be found here.

Your performances at each round of Shield will be recorded and you will be placed in a ranking system. These rankings will be updated regularly. After each match you will be able to see where your performance ranks across all seven zones in Victoria.

At most of the Shield Rounds we compete against the other clubs in our zone. However three rounds this year will be held jointly with other venues in what is called a zone v zone competition. This is a great opportunity to test yourself against different athletes from different zones.

Most Shield Rounds are on Saturday afternoons but we do have occasional rounds on a Sunday and on a Thursday evening, to cater for those who often work or have other commitments on Saturday.
